As part of the BYOBroadway Ideas Competition, we proposed building a parking deck over an existing concrete flood-control channel to alleviate parking and pedestrian safety issues near the intersection of Broadway and Mulberry. While simply covering a ditch with a parking lot would trade one eyesore for another, a second “landscape level” is proposed on top of this parking structure to create a linear park experience. Parked cars are screened from view by a series of vertical wood louvers that are detailed to act as habitats for Mexican free-tailed bats.

Our entry was awarded first place in the "Public Space Gateway" category and was featured in the Rivard Report. A video about the competition can be watched here.
