A house built in Boulder, Colorado in the mid-eighties had a functional but minimal front entry. We worked with the owners to enlarge the steps that originally led to their front door and added two floating horizontal planes. The lower plane acted as an expanded landing that provided enough space for a small seating area. The second plane acted as an overhanging roof. Together they provide a welcoming front porch that is a perfect place to enjoy the blue spruce and ponderosa pine that permeate the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
